The exchange below happens on Dr Hawkins speaking on beyondtheordinary.net . I thought it might be helpful to put the how of surrendering resistance up here. I think it's a common choice many spiritual seeker make a lot. It is from the radio show on 9/14/04.

The questioner asks "if all experience arises from resistance, then how is walking in the woods resistance?"

Here's Hawkins answer:

"You're seeing the wood from a specific locality called I or myself. When that disappears the experiencing is not from a specific locality but more like a generality as tho you are the woods.

"A: It's a very high state to go into, a state of peace, and the witnessing seems to happen on its own. The sense of a personal I disappears, and the phenomena are occuring spontaneously on their own without any reference to a specific perceiver.

"Q: So is all experience is due to resistance?

"A: One can witness without experiencing.

"Q: But what's the resistance?

"A: In ordinary life negative feelings are due to resistance, and by relenquishing the thought in ordinary life you disappear it as an experiental phenomenon.

"For example let's say there's a baby crying in the back of the bus, and it's annoying you. As long as you resist it the baby's gonna keep annoying you. When you suddenly relent to it it just melds in with the rest of the noise in the bus and doesn't bother you anymore.

"Q: Okay. So you're talking about surrendering?

"A: Letting go of resisting. It's most phenomenal use is letting go of negative
things when you got a problem."

  • Hi Paul,
I like to thank you in general for all your contrubutions. It looks like it's a bit of a 'one man show' until now. I read all your pieces. I became a big Hawkins fan since I met two Austrian guys in India, where we visited Ramesh Balsekar. They introduced me to Dr. David Hawkins. Looking back this was after all my reason of visiting India. He is an inspiring daily part of my life. Being alert of being aware of any resistance is helping me a lot to stay in peace. (surrender to what is) One of the two Austrians,Jacob, pointed me to this site today and I joined in immediately. Warm regards too. Hans
    • Hello P aul, I just found this tribe, and I have been wondering why there hasn't been a tribe to discuss this information, thanks for getting this started
      look forward to more
      • I'm experiencing the magic of what Hawkins describes above right now as if for the first time, at a new level. I'm so delighted by it! Thanks for posting to this thread, I dont' believe I read it before.

        • Hi Noa,
I found these pieces of Paul with no reaction at all. I found him all over the place in the tribe Power vs Force where he found more interaction. His pieces are very good. I found a lot of you too on other tribes. (I clicked pathwayhome) Very interesting.
I went to Ramesh Balsekar in India in december last year. Very impressive. But my absolute highlight there was the discovery of Dr. David Hawkins through two Autrian students. I had never heard of him. They lended me a book and lots of MP3 material. Starting reading the book made me cry. (his third book 'I') Back home I ordered all his books and it's now a daily part of my life. an amazing gift. For me, I don't need anything else. I cannot point it exactly but during the appr. last 4 years I am in so much peace. I am still so amazed and grateful that it seems to last. Surrender and being aware of surrendering to anything happening constanly is key for me. I find this inpiring:
In reality, everything occurs of its own, with no exterior cause. Every thing and every event is a manifestation of the totality of All That Is, just as it is at any given moment. Once seen in its totality, everything is perfect at all times and nothing needs an external cause to change it in any way. From the viewpoint of the ego’s positionality and limited scope, the world seems to need endless fixing and correction. This illusion collapses as a vanity. Dr. David Hawkins

I booked a lecture for next year :o)
